Apprenticeship & Training Bureau The Apprenticeship and Training Bureau administers an apprenticeship program that helps workers learn new specialized skills needed in today's workforce. The apprenticeship program combines on-the-job training with invaluable classroom instruction. The bureau helps community colleges, technical institutions, universities and individual employers come together to provide exceptional training that gives apprentices a competitive edge in the current global economy. The program, created in 1937, establishes by private employers or under the
sponsorship of joint labor-management committees. Skilled consultants provide
technical assistance, monitoring and consulting services to qualified employers
willing to take on the responsibilities and obligations of program sponsorship. Sponsor and Apprentice Highlights: Time Warner Cable
Silas Dobbins
“The Tech Progression and Apprenticeship program played a instrumental role with my advancement in Time Warner Cable. I strongly feel I would not be where I am today without these programs in place. I achieved my goal of becoming a maintenance tech in about fours years. With dedication and great programs there is nothing I can't achieve here at Time Warner Cable.” Silas will now participate in the Carolina Maintenance Progression Program as it launches across the region.
Received over $10,000 from the GI Bill Program
“The tech progression plan allowed me to learn new things in school that improved my job performance but on top of that being in the apprenticeship I was able to get the rest of my GI Bill money. Having that extra money was a life saver to me I bought a new car, caught up on bills and sent my children to summer camp without having to get a scholarship.“
Brent Strong 10 Years with Time Warner
“In the Ten years I have been employed by Time Warner Cable, I have had many positions, but my main goal was to get into the Maintenance Department. While in the Service Department Time Warner rolled out with the Technician progression program and it helped me get to where I am todaya Network Maintenance Technician. I was happy to hear they had advanced the Technician Progression onto the Maintenance Department so myself and others can advance our skills and knowledge so we can keep moving toward our goals.”
82nd Airborne Infantry
“As a Veteran, I was concerned about not having the resources to use my G.I. Bill and go back to college after I got out of the Army. The apprenticeship program from Time Warner Cable has been a blessing for both my family and my career. I have been able to utilize my G.I. Bill while going through the tech progression program, securing my future within the company and securing my ability to raise a family. Thank you, Time Warner Cable.”
Sr. Mgr. Field Operations
“The Apprenticeship & Tech Progression program have enabled us to increase the collective experience, tenure & training of our technical operations team. When we first launched the program, 44% of the techs were at the more elementary Install Tech level, and only 8% were at the Professional levels. Now a little over 2 years later, we have only 17% of our staff at the Install Tech level, and 31% of our techs are in the Professional levels. This improves the overall composition of our technical staff & provides our customers with a highly talented and prepared technical team.”
