- Develop the Safety Amusement Star (SAS) program for the amusement
industry operating in North Carolina with the guidance of the Amusement
Device Advisory Board. Develop award criteria and credentialing process
for traveling amusement shows by Dec. 31, 2009. Have Safety Amusement Star
credentialing for permanent parks and waterparks by Dec. 31, 2010.
- Provide at least three training sessions to architects, general
contractors, and anyone else having anything dealing with the design and
construction of elevators and related equipment in different venues of
the state annually.
- Provide emergency evacuation training as related to elevator systems for
emergency personnel upon request to local and state authorities at city,
state and county levels.

- Provide professional development opportunities to employees to improve
the quality of inspections.

- Develop and implement an elevator inspection apprenticeship program by
June 30, 2009.
- Develop a three-tier career progression plan for inspectors (trainee,
journeyman and master inspector) by June 30, 2009, and implement by June
30, 2010.

- The Elevator and Amusement Device Bureau Employee Safety and Health
Committee will meet at least four times annually and perform the duties
required under Policy 2 for unit safety and health committees.
- The Elevator and Amusement Device Bureau Employee Safety and Health
Committee will send at least one representative to every meeting of the
department’s Employee Safety and Health Committee.

- The Elevator and Amusement Device Bureau will conduct documented
inspections using appropriate forms at least quarterly within the
bureau’s portion of its building to ensure the maintenance and safe
conditions and to identify and address newly created hazards in a timely
manner.
- All injuries, occupational illnesses, and violence or criminal activity
events will be investigated and reported within the guidelines and time
frames of the Employee Safety and Health Program, Policy 9.

- Every field employee will be certified in defensive driving by June 30,
2010.
- Provide all employees an opportunity to receive CPR training.
