The N.C. Department of Labor Elevator and Amusement
Device Bureau inspects amusement rides at fairs, carnivals and
permanent parks across our state to make sure they are mechanically
and structurally safe for riders.
Unfortunately, the majority of accidents on amusement rides are
caused by human error. In an effort to educate riders about how
they can make sure their ride is a safe one, NCDOL has developed
a rider safety program. Over the past three years, local fairs
have been proactive in getting the word out about ride safety through
safety signs and bookmarks listing safety tips. |
This years the program will focus on one particular
rule: height requirements. Every ride has a height requirement,
and it is a very important rule to follow. The theme of the program
this year, "Measure Up to Safety," encourages riders
and parents to be aware of the ride height requirements and never
get on a ride if the requirement is not met.
Stop by the NCDOL booth at the N.C. State Fair in Raleigh to get
your height measured so you'll know what rides you can ride. |

The rider safety program was also expanded to include permanent parks.
Wet 'n Wild Emerald Pointe is
distributing water park safety tips to park visitors this summer. If
you plan to visit a water park, take a few minutes
to look over the water wise safety tips.
