The bureau's recognition program offers two programs that recognizes both private and public sector employers; the Star Program and the Safety Awards Program.
The purpose of the Star is to recognize excellence in site-specific occupational safety and health programs. These programs are composed of management systems for preventing and controlling occupational hazards. The Star Program works cooperatively with employers in construction, general industry, and public sector entities. There are four Star Programs. They include Rising Star, Carolina Star, Public Sector Star and Building Star.
In addition, a Special Star Team Member (SSTM) Program has been implemented to leverage OSH Division’s limited resources by utilizing qualified Star site employees and independent private sector safety and health professionals during onsite Star evaluations.
The Safety Awards Program recognizes private and public employers throughout the state that achieve and maintain good safety records. The Safety Awards Program is designed to stimulate interest in accident prevention and to promote a safe and healthy workplace. The two types of safety awards include the Annual Safety Awards and Million Hour Safety Awards.
