Recent changes to the federal minimum wage law by Congress have prompted the N.C. Department of Labor to make several changes to its free labor law poster. Effective July 24, 2007, the federal minimum wage will increase from $5.15 per hour in three steps: to $5.85 per hour effective July 24, 2007; to $6.55 per hour effective July 24, 2008; and to $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009. In North Carolina, employers are required to pay the higher of the state or federal minimum wages. So, the minimum wage employers are required to pay their employees in North Carolina will remain at $6.15 per hour until July 24, 2008, when it will increase to $6.55 per hour. The new posters reflect these changes. Employers may continue to use the old poster until they receive a new poster.
