Research and Information Technology
The primary responsibility of the Research and Policy Division
is to collect information and data use by the
labor commissioner. The
division helps to establish and revise policy guidelines and assists
all other divisions and bureaus in the department. The division
also develops and implements special programs and projects.
The Safety and Health Survey Section collects, reviews, refines
and publishes injury and illness survey data for certification
by the U.S.
Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
The data are used by the U.S. Department of Labor to provide
work-related injury and illness rates and demographic
and
case
characteristics
data
on U.S. employees. The section conducts
the BLS-sponsored Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI)
and the Survey of
Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII)
